Liverpool have started the process of buying back their iconic former training ground – Melwood.
The Reds made an emotional exit from the legendary headquarters back in 2020, having agreed to sell it the year before. But now, as per The Daily Mail, Liverpool have ‘entered negotiations’ to own Melwood once more.
It’s claimed that should those negotiations end successfully, Melwood will become the base for the Liverpool Women’s team.
There’s as of yet no suggestion of where the negotiations will end up. The Mail report that Liverpool sold the complex for around £10m to property developers Torus. Perhaps not the deadline day news fan were hoping for, but this is really nice nonetheless.

To those of us of a misty-eyed persuasion, this is lovely news. It was a real wrench to see Liverpool leave their training home of almost 70 years back in 2020.
To have it back in the club’s ownership and being used by the women’s team would be absolutely brilliant.
Of course, it’s great that Liverpool have moved with the times in their state-of-the-art AXA Training Centre. But there was undoubtedly something special about Melwood.

It was lucky that new owners Torus recognised that, too. Since buying the land, they’ve reportedly yet to begin building on it, leaving the door open to a buy-back.
Upon securing their new property, they also showed understanding of what the complex means to the community. As per The Mail, Liverpool legends Jamie Carragher and Robbie Fowler both struck a deal to house their respective academies in the building.
And this latest development has already been warmly welcomed by Carragher. Taking to Twitter yesterday, the player-turned-pundit actually broke the news of the potential deal.
“Breaking News! Liverpool have made an approach & are trying to buy back Melwood for LFC Women’s Team!” wrote the excited Carragher.
The comments from Reds fans of ‘can it play in midfield’ maybe showed that this wasn’t something particularly exciting for a generation of supporters. But for those of us who do miss our former home, this is better than any new signing ever could be.
