Harvey Elliott says he’s been asking Alexis Mac Allister about his wonder-goal for Liverpool on Sunday.

Mac Allister opened his account for the Reds with one of the best strikes you’ll see in the Premier League all season.

Latching onto a bouncing ball around 30 yards from goal, the Argentine walloped a sliced effort perfectly into the top corner. It was a beautiful hit, which Mac Allister later claimed was the best he’d ever scored.

His teammates clearly couldn’t believe it either. Trent Alexander-Arnold admitted that he was ‘gob-smacked’ by the goal, and Elliott spoke to The Kelly and Wrighty Show yesterday to share what Mac Allister has now been telling his colleagues.

“You know what, I spoke to Macca today and I said where’s that come from?” began the 20-year-old.

“He said he normally pulls it out once year. I mean, he’s saved it for December which is good, so hopefully we can see it in January next year!”

Mac Allister laughs off wonder-goal

When Liverpool signed Mac Allister back in June, this was perhaps the kind of thing Reds supporters might have been expecting from him.

Obviously, you can’t be waiting for a strike like this week on week, but there was a feeling that he could certainly help Liverpool get goals. Good goals.

So far, that hasn’t been the case. Sunday’s belter was his first one since his move from Brighton.

Clearly though, this isn’t all on Macca. Jurgen Klopp’s insistence on playing the World Cup winner in a holding midfield role has limited his impact further up the pitch.

Alexis Mac Allister

Had Mac Allister been operating in a similar role to that of Dominik Szoboszlai or Ryan Gravenberch for instance, he may have bagged another couple.

Nevertheless, it’s worth pointing out that Wataru Endo also scored from the deepest lying position in Liverpool’s midfield on Sunday.

Much in the way that Rodri does for Manchester City, it is possible to get goals from there.

Now that we’ve seen that Mac Allister has this in his locker, Liverpool fans will hope they won’t have to wait too long for the next one. January it is, Macca!
