Jurgen Klopp has admitted that Diogo Jota is now back in training despite not being told that the Liverpool forward would be returning.

The Portuguese international has been out of action for the Reds since Liverpool’s 1-1 draw against Manchester City, with initial fears suggesting that Jota would be out for some time.

However, speaking to the press today, Klopp confirmed that the £45m forward was actually back yesterday, with the Anfield boss admitting that even he didn’t know Jota would be at Kirkby.

Whilst the former Wolves star is unlikely to feature tomorrow night against Sheffield United, Jota’s return is a massive boost for the Reds heading into the festive period.

Indeed, with players dropping left, right and centre, the likes of Jota being close to returning already is huge, and Klopp has said that the attacker could be back in action soon.

Klopp said: “Diogo Jota was out running yesterday on his birthday, so hopefully everything goes in the right direction. Nobody told me he would be back in team training today, but there’s still some time left.”

Jota is one of the most reliable players in Liverpool’s attacking ranks, and the forward being back as early as this weekend could be huge for Klopp and his Premier League title dream.

The Portuguese international offers an incredible amount of versatility in the attack and can cover essentially every position across the front-line three.

And Jota returning soon will be a welcome boost for Klopp, who having lost Joel Matip on the weekend is starting to feel the strain of fixture congestion.
