Liverpool have reportedly been given the green light to move for Sao Paulo youngster Lucas Beraldo in the January transfer window.

The Brazilian defender is regarded as one of the most exciting prospects in all of South America, with recent reports suggesting that Liverpool are interested in signing Beraldo.

With a release clause worth £52m, the left-footed centre-back won’t leave for cheap if Liverpool were to make a move for Beraldo in the January market.

However, according to 90min, Sao Paul are now open to offers for the 20-year-old defender, with Liverpool keen to sign a long-term replacement for the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip.

Indeed, defence should be Liverpool’s main transfer priority in the winter window, with the Reds in need of some quality depth in the position heading into 2024.

And signing Beraldo can offer just that, with the centre-back exactly the sort of player who could thrive at Liverpool if a deal was to be made in January.

Beraldo is clearly a player who is highly rated by Liverpool’s recruitment team, and this update should inspire the Reds to move for the Brazilian youngster.

However, with a release clause worth £52m, it’s clear that the Anfield side should be looking to negotiate with Sao Paulo to sign Beraldo for cheap in the January window.

The Reds have proven themselves to be shrew in the war room when it comes to getting bargains in the transfer market, as seen with Alexis Mac Allister this summer.

And Beraldo could be the next example, with the defender a prospect who could thrive at Liverpool if a deal can be reached in the coming weeks with Sao Paulo.
